Wed, Thu, Spence is in his prime, at 29, got the experience he needed against Brook, went 12 against Garcia, is improving with every fight, I think he's an overrated puncher, but an underrated boxer, schooled Mikey, he was the favourite, but most of us didn't think he'd have the better boxing IQ. Spence is very aggressive, has a high output, is one of the best body punchers in boxing, but his judgement of distance, timing, accuracy, basic boxing skills, great.
Porter is good, beat Alexander, Broner, Garcia, he's a 2-time world champion, he lost to Thurman and Brook, but close. Porter didn't impress in his last fight, he was a heavy favourite, he missed the weight on the first attempt, controversial decision also.
Ugas was probably underrated, that was a factor, I think Porter underestimated him, but at 31, I think he is starting to decline. I think Porter will be better than last time, it is the fight of his life, but I don't think he can repeat his performance from the Garcia fight, close, but I doubt he can match that. I think Spence hits harder, has a lot more skill, but also, Porter relies on strength and punch output, it will be interesting to see if he is stronger than Spence, because Spence is big for the weight, Spence as well, has a high output, but he doesn't rely on these attributes like Porter does because he has more ring IQ and overall boxing ability, if Porter can make this about strength and output, it should be very close.
Porter has very fast feet, doesn't box on the back foot, he can defend going backwards, but he can't make his opponent pay after he's made him miss, on the back foot. Porter cover's the canvas very fast. I think Porter's foot speed will frustrate Spence. I think Spence wins, but not like against Mikey, I don't think Porter is better than Mikey, but it's close, and Porter is a lot bigger than Mikey, so I think this is a tougher fight for Spence.
Spence says he'll be disappointed if there's no KO, but if he goes looking for it, that's unwise. I think if Spence tries to be first, he won't land, because Porter is very elusive. Spence hits hard, but not exceptionally hard, and his power is nothing new to Porter. Spence's best chance of a KO is counter punching, he has to wait for Porter to commit, and time him, a KO at this level can be as much about timing and accuracy as power.
If Spence out boxes Porter, Porter will be frustrated, try to force the fight, and in the late rounds, he will be tired from his own pace, and that's when Spence can be the aggressor, break Porter down from body to head, but if If Spence loads up, is too aggressive early, Porter can counter if Spence gives him an easy opening, and Porter could hurt him, but more likely, he will just miss a lot of punches, take more out of himself than Porter, and he will give Porter more of a chance.
If Spence boxes smart, uses the jab, I think he'll beat Porter to the punch and beat him on the outside, Porter is faster, he has a good jab, judgememt of distance, but not as good as Spence, and Spence is the much better counter puncher.
If Spence goes after the KO, that will work in Porter's favour, I don't think it will cost him the fight, but will cost him rounds in the second half. I think how close the fight is depends on Spence, but I don't think he will stop Porter, because Porter is durable, but also because Porter is always moving, is always working at a high pace, and I think Spence will struggle to hit him with more than one great shot at a time, and I don't think anyone at or would stop Porter.
Fri, Intriguing fight. Spence wins, obviously. It's intriguing because Spence is such a good inside fighter as well as being able to fight at distance. If Spence is better inside than porter which I suspect he might be, what does Porter do? Will be be able to make it messy enough to survive 12 rounds? Maybe he'll bore in with the head and give Spence a cut or two to make it interesting. My head tells me Spence takes a ish win but if he's able to land those body shots regularly through the fight, this could be a long night for Porter.
One that could get him stopped late on. With the exception of Granados maybe, Porter's last 10 or so fights have all been against 'boxers'. I'd love to see Spence try to beat him at his own game by playing rough inside. That will be very interesting to see how Porter copes.
Porter is undoubtedly tough and he'll need to be to hear the bell in this fight. Tue, I don't really find this fight interesting, but I'll watch it anyway.
